Beaconsfield, a vibrant town in the West Tamar Municipality with a population of around 2,000, has entered a new chapter in its healthcare journey. For over 30 years, the town was served with dedication and compassion by Dr Anthony Lyall, who became a pillar of the community. Following his retirement in 2023, the continuity of essential medical services was a key concern for many residents.
Rising to meet this need, Dr G. Prashanth Reddy acquired Dr Lyall’s clinic and officially opened Beaconsfield Family Medical Practice at 146 Weld Street on 18 February 2023. The newly rebranded clinic has since become a cornerstone of health and wellbeing for Beaconsfield and the surrounding areas.
The practice was formally inaugurated by West Tamar Mayor Christina Holmdahl, with members of the community warmly invited to attend. “The Medical Practice under the leadership of Dr Reddy is warmly welcomed by the Council and the community, as it allays any fears that Beaconsfield was going to be left without medical services,” said Mayor Holmdahl. She also paid tribute to Dr Lyall, saying, “Dr Lyall has been an institution in the township for three decades and has contributed greatly to health and wellbeing in the northern part of the municipality. He’ll still be involved in a part-time capacity, and we wish him well for when he does finally hang up his stethoscope.”
With a legacy to honour and a strong vision for the future, Dr Reddy, alongside Dr Sandhya, has led the practice with a focus on delivering high-quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare for all. In just three years, the clinic has grown significantly — from a single GP service to a team of five GPs, with plans underway to expand to eight GPs in the near future.
This commitment to excellence has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, the practice was recognised as the RACGP Best Practice of Tasmania, a prestigious award celebrating outstanding patient care and service delivery. Furthermore, in 2025, Dr Reddy was honoured with the “Young Professional of the Year” award at the Launceston Chamber of Commerce – Care Super Business Excellence Awards, further highlighting his leadership and vision.
The Beaconsfield Family Medical Practice continues to welcome new patients, broaden its range of services, and proudly serve the community that has embraced it. Under the leadership of Dr Reddy and Dr Sandhya, we are proud to offer bulk billing for most medical services, ensuring that quality healthcare remains accessible and affordable for the Beaconsfield community—especially during times of rising cost-of-living pressures. Please note that while most services are bulk billed, some procedures not covered by Medicare may attract a fee. Our team is always happy to discuss any costs with you upfront.
With dedication, compassion, and excellence at its core, the clinic stands as a testament to what community-focused healthcare can achieve.
All patients attending the practice must wear a mask if experiencing any of the following symptoms: Cough, sore throat, or fever.
If you have any respiratory symptoms, we strongly recommend booking a Telehealth consultation instead of attending in person.
You can book via the HOTDOC App or by calling us at (03) 6331 1166.
Thank you for helping us keep our community safe.
Our practice strives to provide exceptional and holistic health care.
